Our hope for the future
Helping the people of Buikwe to maximise the potential of their land is fundamental to TMA’s ambition to bring hope to villages devastated by poverty and disease. New farming techniques are helping raise crop levels dramatically.
Buikwe is very lush and fertile. The soil is a rich red colour, producing a wide range of fruit and vegetables for villagers to consume or sell.

Most families have a small plot on which the householders can grow crops. Some also have space to keep a cow, pigs or goats or to run a small poultry farm.

In the years to come we hope to help villagers improve their animal husbandry and horticulture skills through a training programme. We have a farm that we hope to develop into a model farm in which we can run the training.
Better agriculture has wide benefits. It means bigger incomes as villagers sell surplus crops and livestock as well as better nutrition for families – reducing hunger and malnutrition among children which improves their chances of success in school.
